Dental Tips For Flu And Cold Season

Welcome to cold and flu season from your friends here at @ArcherDentalChicago ! We know that this is the season where you may not feel your best and when you don’t feel your best, your #dentalhabits are not at the top of your list.


Here are some tips to keep in mind during the cold season.


Brush Your Teeth: brushing your teeth may not help you feel better but it will minimize the risk of a dental problem occurring while or after you get sick.


Stay Hydrated: Did you know that staying hydrated when sick effects dental health due to the fact that dry mouth often occurs? Dry mouth can cause cavities when saliva is not present to control bacteria that causes cavities. Dry mouth has the possibility to occur when you can’t breathe through your nose. Hydration is key..


Replace Your Toothbrush: once you feel better it’s a good time to replace the old toothbrush. The bacteria on your toothbrush from the time you were sick, this might increase the chances of the sickness coming back to reinfect you.


Gargle with Salt Water: For sore throats, gargling with salt water can be helpful for removing harmful bacteria in your throat and mouth. Did you know that gargling with salt water minimizes the effects of bad breath and plaque buildup too?


Opt for Sugar Free Medication: Sugary medicines can cause tooth decay or even harm your gums. Choose sugar free or medicine in pill form.


Brushing After Vomiting: It is not a good idea to brush your teeth the instant after you vomit. You can since with water immediately and wait to brush your teeth 30 minutes after.

Never Share Toothbrushes: Sharing a toothbrush is never a good idea, and especially so when you are sick.⠀
